Sutton Circus K9 Academy
Nick Sutton
Nicholas Sutton has worked dogs professionally for nearly a decade, training and handling dogs daily since 2017. His interest in working dogs began much earlier, growing up in Germany, where he spent time watching dogs being trained at the Hunde Hut Restaurant. Those early experiences left a lasting impression and laid the groundwork for the work he does today.
In 2014, Nicholas became the youngest infantryman serving on active duty in the U.S. Army. The discipline, structure, and accountability required in the military continue to influence his approach to training. After exiting the Army, he acquired the German Shepherd he had wanted for years—Adonis. Adonis presented significant aggression issues early on, and Nicholas made the decision to commit fully to training and working through them rather than walking away. That experience marked the true beginning of his professional path in dog training and behavior work.
Since then, Nicholas has worked extensively with a wide range of dogs, including behavioral rehabilitation cases, service dogs, family pets, competitive sport dogs, police canines, and personal protection dogs. His work spans foundational obedience through advanced behavior and working-dog demands, with a consistent focus on clear communication, structure, and reliability in real-world environments.
In 2021, Nicholas attended the NePoPo® Silver & Gold School under Bart Bellon and Michael Bellon. Training directly under Bart Bellon—widely regarded as one of the most influential dog trainers in the world—reinforced a system built on precision, clarity, and fairness. This formal education complements years of hands-on experience working dogs daily, not in theory, but in practice.
While Nicholas works with all breeds and training needs, he has a particular passion for protection sports, including PSA (Protection Sport Association), IGP (Schutzhund), and NVBK (Belgian Ring Sport). That sport work carries into all of his training, reinforcing precise communication, consistent standards, and an understanding of how to develop dogs without exceeding their mental or physical limits.
Clients are welcomed without judgment and met where they are, but lasting success requires commitment from both sides. Nicholas works best with owners who are engaged, consistent, and willing to put in the work alongside their dog. Training is a collaborative process, and real results come from effort, honesty, and follow-through.
The goal is straightforward: capable dogs, confident handlers, and training that holds up in real life.
Kayla Sutton
Kayla Sutton’s love for animals runs deep and has shaped every chapter of her life. Before stepping into the world of professional dog training, she spent years immersed in the horse world—training, showing, and learning the patience and communication required to build trust with high-energy, highly intelligent animals. Her time as a veterinary technician strengthened her understanding of animal behavior and wellbeing, giving her a well-rounded foundation that now elevates her work with dogs and their families.
In early 2023, Kayla was introduced to the world of dog training by her now-husband, Nick. What started as a new interest quickly grew into a passion. She discovered a natural talent for helping pet owners better understand and manage their energetic, spirited, or “difficult” dogs. Kayla especially loves guiding families who feel overwhelmed or unsure—showing them that even the most high-drive dogs can thrive with structure, support, and clear communication.
Outside of everyday pet training, Kayla also competes in bite sports such as PSA alongside Nick. Most recently, with his guidance, she qualified for the 2025 PSA World Championships with her personal dog, Gigi—an accomplishment that reflects her dedication and the strong partnership she builds with every dog she trains.
Today, as Sutton Circus K9 Academy launches, Kayla brings a blend of compassion, experience, and calm confidence to every pet and owner she works with. Her mission is simple: to help dogs become the best version of themselves while giving families the tools, clarity, and support they need to thrive together.
